Below are some ideas for resisting ID cards. These ideas came out of a 'brainstorm' at the Defy-ID Gathering in September 2004 – so no value judgements included in the following – everyone was not necessarily in agreement with all the ideas

Public meetings
Non-registration campaign
Mass forgery

Fake checkpoints (to raise awareness of big brother state)
Target dole offices / schools to raise awareness

Mass letters to newspaper / tv / radio editors
Find doctors who will commit to treat cardless people
Find support within unions / teachers unions also / other service providers
Support networks for card resisters
Street theatre
Flyposting
Stickers
Squats

Mock-up cards

Links with campaigns in other countries especially Australia where they won

Try to get employees onside
Form networks of cardless people, and networks of employees (of things like dole offices / GP’s / nurses ) who are against them
Mock-up ID cards exposing the corruption of the companies involved
Try and raise profile in media

Make campaigning video
Do film showings of documentaries / activist films / also films like 1984, etc
New leaflet (maybe along theme of 1984 (20 years ago) and what will life be like in 20 years time
Explode myths around terrorism, security and crime
Focus on raising awareness of database as well as card
Do a cost analysis to show how it will affect middle England
Point out inaccuracies and how innocent people could find themselves targeted – misuse of data
Fundraising
Collate info on key players
Info stalls, outside GP’s surgeries, job centres etc
Targeting companies and politicians, disrupting press conferences etc, become shareholders of e.g. Atos Origin

Create a pledge not to carry ID cards
National day of action – possibly close to election
Giving out fake cards at point of use
Alternative point of view – education, in schools
Leaflet different groups e.g. in churches

Dirty the database.
Target venues where the ID interview will be held
Infiltration, getting info on companies
Plastic surgery
Opting out and misinformation – multiple IDs
Solidarity actions with refugees
Legal challenges and loopholes
Do research (ask Corporate Watch)
Making links with those most likely to be detrimentally affected
Workshops in schools as part of citizenship classes
